Our Families Journey Through Breast Cancer.

Meeting with the Surgeon

One more Chemo to go.

Kylie has been enjoying not having to go to Chemo. We have been able to do many things and have a good time together as a family and with friends.

These last 2 weeks have been pretty busy with Doctor meetings and fun. It started out with listening to General Conference. Every 6 months, the leaders in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints speak to the whole worldwide church and friends. They share messages of hope and peace focused on Jesus Christ. Especially this time of year, focus on his Glorious resurrection and all he can and does and will do for us.

I was able to run a 5k Spartan Race with 2 friends because she was up and moving around. It was fun, and we had a good time. Within the first ½ mile, Brett blacked out from touching a live cattle fence wire. We were supposed to crawl under it. That’s a lot of voltage. He was okay and just got up, asking what happened. He thought he went to sleep and suddenly woke up in the middle of a race. We later learned that the wire was not supposed to be live and was supposed to be turned off.

Kylie had a meeting with her surgeon. She always tells Kylie that she will think about her like she is her own daughter and what would she advise her daughter to do if she were in this situation. It means a lot ot us.

Kylie learned it will take about 4-6 weeks to recover. A big portion of this will be with drains. During recovery, she is not going to be able to lift her arms or use them to do much. The whole muscle area that moves the arms is severely impacted. Due to this, she won’t be able to hold the kids much, especially when her drains are in.

We don’t want her drains to fall out because then she will have to go back to get them sown in again. The drains are there to help keep the blood and fluids from pooling and possibly getting infected.

Two Drains.

If you’ve ever had your blood pressure taken with a blood pressure cuff where the doctor squeezed this oval-shaped ball connected to a tube, that is what the drains look like. The oval-shaped ball is connected to a tube. These drains will fill up with blood and fluids, and I will have to empty them as they get full.

Surgery is scheduled for May 20th. We talked about postponing it until Emmie is done with school later that week but decided against it because it will already be 5 weeks after the last chemo on April 15th, and Kylie is ready to do everything she can to get the Cancer gone. To help with this recovery transition, I am taking 2 weeks of work off.

Kylie has said this a few times.  “One more Chemo. I could cry.” We are so thankful to be getting through this stage of the recovery from Breast cancer. It’s not over yet, but this is a huge milestone.

A few days later, Emmie started Spring break.

We took some time to go to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, with the Jensens. It’s only 2.5 hours from our house, nestled in the Great Smokey Mountains. It is very beautiful. We spent most of our time outside, hiking and exploring the two little towns.

This family is the true reason we moved to South Carolina haha. We visited them for 3 days 2 years ago as part of our trip to figure out where we should move. We felt like it was time for us to move out of Arizona, and because we work from home, we were able to rent out our house and travel for 6 months, stopping at places we wanted to consider moving to. We visited Nashville, Knoxville, Missouri, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and other places along the way. It was such a magical, fun time. I especially loved watching Avatar in Missouri.

We visited South Carolina for 3 days to see the Jensens. Kylie grew up with Logan, and they have been friends for years. They also have kids the same age as ours. After we finished up our 6 month trip, we looked at our lists of places we visited and narrowed it down to 3. Idaho, St. George, UT, and SC.  We felt so strongly that we should move here that a couple of weeks later, we started the process of building a house, and now here we are. Looking back on all these blog posts, I can see God’s hand in our moving here. It is the place for us.

Unfortunately, on Wednesday, I got hit hard with allergies, and my face hurts. I thought I had hay fever, but I think it’s something more. I am going to the doctor today because I need to heal up so I can be ready for Chemo.

We have seen God’s hand this week in keeping us safe and by creating such magnificent, beautiful things for us to see. All things denote that there is a God. He created nature to please our eyes and gladden our hearts. Many people helped us out and got us prepped for chemo this week. Thanks for praying and joining us on this journey.
